Commission B Discusses Subsidized LPG with Nakertransgi Agency

Jakarta City Council (DPRD) Commission B held a meeting with Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy (Nakertransgi) Agency to discuss about the subsidized 3-kilogram Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) or commonly known as melon gas.

"The main principle is to ensure sufficient supply and stock availability for all target groups in Jakarta,"

Commission B Legislator, Dwi Rio Sambodo, stated that the subsidized gas allocated for underprivileged residents requires attention, both related to stock availability, price, and distribution which must be on target.

"The main principle is to ensure sufficient supply and stock availability for all target groups in Jakarta. It needs monitoring and integrated supervision to prevent migration to buffer areas with the highest retail prices of 3-kilogram LPG," he said, Monday (2/9).

He emphasized that firm action and deterrent effects are neccesary against dishonest distributors to address the problems of scarcity and misconduct in LPG distribution at the agent, depot, or retailer level.

"When scarcity occurs, market operations are also needed to avoid hoarding, as well as to control prices," he added.

On the other hand, Jakarta Nakertransgi Agency Head, Hari Nugroho explained, there will be coordination with the central government to ensure subsidized LPG distribution and pricing are in accordance with the regulations.

"Some time ago, actually I thought there was no scarcity, but rather panic buying due to a policy prohibiting retailers from selling subsidized LPG," he expressed.

According to him, in 2024, Jakarta received a quota of 417,234 metric tons or 139,081,000 cylinders from the central government.

"The total until December 2024 exceeds the quota, amounting to 417,848 metric tons or 139,616,000 cylinders," he conveyed.

He also pointed out that a revision of Gubernatorial Regulation (Pergub) No. 4/2015 on Highest Retail Price (HET) of 3-Kilogram LPG is necessary. Referring to the Pergub, supervision and control are still under the Industry and Energy (PE) Agency.

"Currently, there is no PE Agency, only Nakertransgi Agency. Through the revision of this Pergub, it is also necessary to ensure the mechanism and beneficiaries, including the option of using QR Code technology to prevent misuse or fraud," he explained.
